Football spread betting - team performance
This spread relates to "Team Performance"
for both teams in a live televised match. The teams
are awarded various performance points based upon particular
events. Although again the scoring system is likely
to fluctuate between one firm and another (to minimise
the number of people that are accurately able to shop
around for best prices), it will probably look something
like:
Win =25pts
Draw =10pts
Goal = 15pts
Clean Sheet = 10pts
Woodwork = 10pts (must rebound into play).
Corner = 3pts
Yellow Card = - 5pts
Red Card = -15pts
Quotes are offered on both teams. However, given the
scoring system, the team that wins the match will not
necessarily be the team with the highest team performance
score. Then again, comparison with the other team does
not directly play a part in the calculation of profits,
so that doesn’t really matter too much.
If you were faced with a volatile derby between two
teams with excellent defences and poor attacks, you
might reasonably expect that both teams would end the
game with a low performance score. The lack of points
for goals scored would be partially offset by clean
sheets, but the score would potentially be lowered by
a higher than average number of yellow or red cards.
If you want to back against a team that are the strongly
fancied favourites, it normally makes sense to go low
against them, rather than go high against the opposition.
If Manchester United were at home to Wolves, then it
could be feasible for the away side to defend in numbers,
frustrate them and maybe even sneak a goal. But it is
highly unlikely that the game will be turned on its
head, with the away side getting a glut of goals.
Performance indexes cannot normally be traded in running,
though there is normally an opening at half time where
the market is updated and you may have a second chance
to trade.
